Arrive in Paro, Day 1

 

Upon your arrival, drive to the hotel. After lunch explore the charming town, visiting the many small shops that sell everything from beetle-nut to exquisite traditional fabric. Evening you will get the chance to watch the locals playing the traditional game, archery. Evening tea in a local restaurant. Dinner at hotel.

Paro sightseeing, Day 2

 

Morning hike to the famous Tiger’s Nest temple. Lunch in the cafeteria on the way back. After lunch hike back till the road and drive back to the hotel. On the way back to the hotel visit the national museum and the fortress of Paro. Evening back to hotel.

Paro to Haa to Paro, Day 3

Morning drive to Haa town which was recently opened to foreigners. Enjoy the uniqueness of the recently opened town. After lunch drive back to Paro.

Paro to Thimphu, Day 4

Morning drive to Thimphu. Afternoon visit the School of Arts and Craft, Textile and the Folk Heritage Museums. Evening visit the memorial Chorten and Changangkha Lhakang.

Thimphu sightseeing, Day 5

Morning visit the interesting weekend market where the villagers from around Thimphu valley come to sell their products. Visit Memorial Chorten built in the memory of late king. Visit Changangkha temple, Zilukha nunnery and the zoo to see the unique national animal, Takin. Afternoon hike to Chery Monastry built in 17th century.

Thimphu to Punakha, Day 6

Drive to Punakha, the drive to will take us about 3 hours. About an hours climb from Thimphu, we will be crossing the Dochula pass. If we are lucky with the weather, we can see the entire Bhutanese Himalayas; east of Chomolhari to Gangkhar Puensum.. After lunch, visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong Fortress, the winter seat of the Head Abbot. A pleasant hike through rice fields to a Tantric Buddhist temple brings the day to an end.

Punakha to Gangtey, Day 7

Morning drive towards Gangtey valley, the winter home of the Black Necked Cranes. Walk around the valley and visit the Gangtey temple over the hill top. Evening enjoy the stroll in the wide isolated valley of Phobjikha.

 

Overnight in Phobjikha | Altitude: 2600 m

 

 

Gangtey to Jakar, Day 8

The drive fromGangtey to Jakar in Bumthang will take about 5 hours. On the way, we will visit the Trongsa Dzong. It was from this Dzong that the Bhutanese rulers fought off the British invasion attempts in the 1800s. As you drive further, just before reaching Jakar, you will get an opportunity to see the locals weaving the unique yak wool blankets which is of very special from the central region.

Jakar sightseeing, Day 9

The beauty of this valley has attracted many important Buddhist masters over the centuries. Bumthang has the most number of religious sites than any other district in Bhutan. Visit the Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey Lhakhang, Tamshing Lhakhang and Jakar Dzong. Most of the visit will be done on foot.

Jakar to Tang, Day 10

Excursion to the Tang valley. Have a picnic on the way. Walk around the lovely village of Tang. Visit the unique museum of the ancestral royals of that region. We will spend the night in a simple room of the Museum.

 

Overnight in Tang | Altitude: 2800m

 

 

Tang to Jakar, Day 11

Morning walk around the village. Visit the unique museum which use to be the palace of the local rulers during the olden days. Afternoon, dive back to Jakar.

 

Overnight in Jakar | Altitude: 2700m

 

 

Jakar to Trongsa, Day 12

Morning drive to Trongsa. After lunch, excursion to Kuenga Rapten village, the old winter capital of second king. Evening drive back to hotel.

 

Overnight in Trongsa | Altitude: 2350m

 

 

Trongsa to Punakha, Day 13

Early morning drive for the warm valley of Punakha, enroute visit the winter Phobjikha valley, the home for the endangered Back Necked Cranes which visit Bhutan from November to February. Drive further down through Wangdue town till your reach Punakha.

 

Overnight in Punakha | Altitude: 1250m

 

 

Punakha to Paro, Day 14

Morning hike to the hill top temple of Khamsum Yuley Lakhang. Meet with the local of the village around. Drive back to the hotel. After lunch drive for Paro .

 

Overnight: Paro | Altitude: 2200m

 

 

Day 15

 

Early morning departure flight to Bangkok.
