Dagala Trek is one of the most amazing treks in Bhutan. The true heart of the adventure unfolds over four days on the trek, a scenic route that winds through pristine forests and remote mountain passes, culminating in the Thimphu valley. Day by Day Itinerary
Arrival in Paro
Early morning flight to Paro, Bhutan. Upon your arrival, our guide will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. Later visit the National Museum and Paro Dzong (Fortress) on foot, crossing the oldest wooden bridge still in use. Stroll around Paro town in the evening.
Paro Sightseeing
Morning drive to the base for the hike to Tiger’s Nest, the most revered temple in the country that literally hangs on a granite cliff overlooking the Paro valley. Most of the day will go on the hike. The hike is a moderate to challenging trek leading to the iconic Paro Taktsang Monastery. The hike is approximately 7km round-trip, with an elevation gain of about 518 meters. It typically takes 5 to 6 hours to complete, including a stop at the halfway cafeteria. The trail offers stunning views of the Paro Valley and features prayer flags and a scenic waterfall. If you have energy visit the Kichu Lakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan which marks the beginning of Buddhism in the country.
Paro – Genekha (1.5 Hrs) – Chakula (Trek Starts)
Morning drive to Genekha. After leaving the main highway, most of the drive (1 Hr) is through the dirt road ending near the village. Meet your trekking crew. The trek starts with a gentle hike through farmland, slowly leaving the village. The open hike through pastures offers great views of Genekha valley. Finally, reach the spur with views towards Paro valley. Camp at Tashithang.
Chakula - Hogula
Considered the most beautiful trail offering magnificent mountain views. Follow the ridge for at least two hours through an open hike above the tree line. Descend into rhododendron and high-altitude shrubs that decorate the rocky trail. Follow the ridge for the rest of the day with gentle climbs and descents. Camp at Hogula for magnificent sunset views over the northwest peaks and Thimphu valley.
Hogula - Shungkhutsho/Cherigang
Early morning witness the morning sun touch Mt. Kanchenjunga and Mt. Jumolhari. Follow the trail over small gentle hills with valley views. Reach Japhula pass (4200 m) offering magnificent views of the northern frontiers. After lunch, descend through changing vegetation. Camp at Shungkhu Tsho (dried lake) or walk further to Cherigang.
Trek ends - Thimphu
Enjoy the sunrise over northern mountain peaks. Descend through mixed vegetation and apple orchards to Chamgang village. Bid farewell to trekking staff and ponies. Drive to Thimphu for lunch. Visit Memorial Chorten, the Takin enclosure, and the Buddha statue. After 5 PM, visit Tashichho Dzong. Evening walk in Thimphu town.
Thimphu - Paro (1.5 Hrs)
Morning visit the Handmade Paper Mill and School of Arts and Crafts. Visit Folk Heritage Museum. Hot stone bath available at additional cost. Farewell dinner with your guide in the evening. Drive back to Paro for the night.
Departure
Morning transfer to the airport for your departure flight. Your guide will bid you farewell at the airport.
